Hi everybody. I've got a problem with logging with GUI on Solaris 9.
I can login just fine with ssh from putty on my NIS user but when I try to do the same and login with GNOME or CDE after I hit the username it just hangs.
This problem appears even if I type any name in the user column. It just hangs. I can login with root though on CDE or GNOME. Is there some kind of problem with the users?
I've tried to login with root and then su NISuser but it doesn't get the correct mapping for my home directory. I need XDM login for an application that I need to use with my NIS user.
If you're logging in as root and then 'su-ing' to your user and the $HOME is not mapping properly, then this will have a direct impact on you trying to login direct thru X/Gui.
When you ssh in (as your userid),do you get your $HOME directory as your cwd?
The . files yes I own them and have the possibility of writing them. The .Xauthority file has -rw------- and it's owned by my NIS user and group. Strangely enough I have another system with Solaris 8 installed and although they have the same configuration the Solaris 8 configuration works with GUI login and the Solaris 9 doesn't as I have stated.
I forgot to mention that for the Solaris 9 I have installed latest available patches. Is it possible to be some kind of security enhanced procedure in one of the patches?
