Solaris 10 SMF Configuration.

Dear Solaris Experts,

The reason behind my question is : I already compiled
PostFix (2.2.5) into Solaris 10 but do not know
how to set it up as running Daemon when the OS booted.
Finally I got to know SMF.

Regarding the SMF Documentation on Sun (SMF-Migrate.PDF),
there were 3 types of SMF configuration :
1. Simple Standalone Daemon
2. Simple Configuration Service
3. Inetd-Managed Daemon

Questions :
1. Under what circumstances should I configure a daemon
as Simple Standalone or Simple Configuration Service or
Inetd-Managed Daemon ?

2. On RedHat Linux, there are /etc/rc.d/rc.local which always
be executed when the system boots. Is there any similar file
on Solaris which serve the same functions ? In other word,
what file that is similar to RedHat's rc.local on Solaris 10 ?

Thank you in advance.

Note :
SMF-Migrate.PDF can be found on http://blogs.sun.com/roller/resource...MF-migrate.pdf

1. If your service is a program that can run standalone, i.e. is able to listen for its clients itself, and can stay forever in that state, it is a good candidate for a Simple Standalone Service.
If your service is transcient, and quit after doing its task, its a Simple configuration service.
If your service cannot or want not to handle the networking part, the go the inetd managed way.

2. There is no specific script like that one on Solaris, but you are free to create your own, /etc/rc3.d/S99local for example.
