I have been trying to help on of our customers who are having an issue with their application under Solaris 10 (x86). Their application becomes 'unresponsive' for a persiod of around 20 seconds. This occurs periodically and from debugging they have performed, it would seem that this period is related to the uptime of the system.

Basically it is seen every 2,147,580 seconds. They have set 'hires_tick=1' and 'hires_hz=1000' (in /etc/system), so this number of seconds would seem to correlate to a 32 bit signed value 'rollover' somewhere in the system.

I have attempted to search for other people reporting similar issues but have been unsuccessful so far. Does anybody here have any suggestions or seen similar behaviour?

You usually set hires_tick = 1 if you have a 10 Gigabit NIC.
If you have got such a NIC then I recommend an update of the NIC driver, mainly in the Solaris OS, but also the NIC firmware.
