I am having problems getting my solaris 9.0 to connect to the INTERNET. I seem to have it close. I can ping local or IP addresses on the wan. I can bring up the web browser and type in an IP address (209.158.xxx.xxx) and it will bring up the web page. It will not open pages like xwx.xxx.com or follow links that are to another IP address. It seems my dns (?) is not working correctly? I am using a static IP to hub connected to router that has wan access. Any help would be appreciated.
I now have internet. Thanks all. I actually used boot cdrom -s and re-formatted and checked the hard drive then did an install. I used all the parameters I have used at least 8 previous times and this time it all worked. There must have been a problem with the hard drive. I now have a really newbie question to ask. I am new at solaris and this is the first scsi hard drive I have had to work with. I can not use a dir command or cd command in a terminal. I am sure it is just my lack of knowledge preventing me from being able to. I can use the file manager to view my hard drive and I can right click an executable and click run with options and that works okay. I just haven't figured out how to navigate the hard drive in a terminal.
It was most likely a configuration problem that prevented your DNS resolution from working. I don't think you can attribute it to a hard drive problem.
As far as you ability to navigate the file system, what commands are you using? Can you do the following (as examples):
pwd
ls
cd /tmp
cd
cd /usr/bin
No. I can't ls or cd, cd/tmp, cd usr/bin or anything in terminal mode. I am sure it has something to do with the fact that I am running scsi. Maybe I didn't set up my nvram correctly. This was my first try at setting up and running solaris on an UltraSparc. Also, I don't have any books on solaris or UltraSparc yet. I have been going online and printing some. I downloaded some pdf the other day. All very time consuming but I will eventually read them all. If you can think of where I am going wrong or where I should look and what to look for that would be a great start for me.
That's odd. I don't think it has anything to do with SCSI. If there was anything wrong with your drive or file systems, you most likely would not have booted up. How are you starting a terminal window?
Just for grins, shutdown the server and start it back up. At the "ok" prompt, boot into single user mode with "boot -s". When the system comes to a login prompt, login as your user. See if you can do an ls or cd then.
Ok...just stupidity. I can cd to change directory and ls to list what is in the directory. I have worked out several other issues also. One of my worst issues was I had run out of room on my hard drive partition. I finally tracked down why and repaired that. I now have it up and running correctly now. However, I now have problems getting my lexmark printer to work. Any suggestions?
