Installing apache from sunfreeware

Hi there,

Finally bought myself a sun microsystems machine. Anyhow, I'm trying to install apache. I downloaded and installed the packages from sunfreeware.com:

apache-1.3.27.sol9-sparc-local.gz
openssl-0.9.6i-sol9-sparc-local.gz

They both installed just fine. However, getting errors trying to start apache:

bash-3.00# ./apachectl configtest
Syntax error on line 240 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /usr/local/apache/libexec/libssl.so into server: ld.so.1: /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd: fatal: libssl.so.0.9.6: open failed: No such file or directory

libssl.so.0.9.6 is there! I don't understand why it doesn't work. I have solaris 9. Can somebody help me on how they got ssl to work with apache from sunfreeware? Thanks...

Perhaps http://www.sunfreeware.com/apache.html may give you some clues, alternatively, you may try using the blastwave.org apache package, as the installation and dependancies handling are more automatized there.

First: DEFINITELY stick with SunFreeware - Christensen's packages are well-built and well-integrated...

To start, get most current version of OpenSSL from Freeware...

And, while you're at it, since you don't have any investment in a preexisting webserver, why not just move up to Apache2 v2.0.52 at the moment, if memory serves.

One of our (most robust, reliable) servers is exactly what you're trying to do. Will be happy to help.

Did you encounter problems with blastwave's packages ?
Just asking because although a long time user of Steve's site, I have found that blastwave's packages happen to be often more up to date, built at least with the same level of quality and integration, and definitively superior in term of ease of installation and upgrade.

No, nothing I would call a problem per se, but we wound up with a couple of versions of different libraries, etc. At worst, only an 'unpleasantness', granted, but would prefer a cohesive architecture...

Blastwave's stuff is helpful, for example, in the SASL and OpenLDAP server areas; these are not available at SunFreeware...

Re upgrade: If you're talking about the pkg-get facility of Blastwave, yes, I must agree: FABULOUS. Funny you should bring this up, as we are just in the process of setting up the pkg-get config for SunFreeware. Looks easy, let's see!

Okay, good to know SunFreeware will support pkg-get.

Anyway, assuming disk space is not an issue, there's almost no problem installing freeware from both sources (as I do a lot), as they are supposed to mostly live in distinct areas (/opt/sfw and /opt/csw). The main problem being port numbers collision for services, but that one can be overcome with S10 zones ...
