I see Oracle has a Solaris 11 available for download

As I was visiting Distrowatch, I noticed Solaris was number 79 in their Page Hit Ranking--just "Solaris", not "OpenSolaris". Hmmm!

The Oracle Solaris 11 product page is one I have not seen before. I haven't paid a lot of attention, but I wasn't aware this was available.

So is anyone using this?
How does it compare to Sun Solaris of times gone by?

I'm thinking of loading it into a KVM virtual machine on my Fedora host. Has anyone done that? Are there any problems?

Of course, I realize this is not free software. In fact, the license even says, "You may not ... disclose results of any benchmark test results related to the Programs without our prior consent." Good grief! If I compare it with another OS, I can't even post the results lest I be in violation of the license. That stinks.

Solaris 11 is available since november 2011, and before it, Solaris 11 Express was available since october 2010.

Solaris 11 is the next version after Solaris 10. It has a lot of improvements and changes. Here is the what's new page http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/se...111-392603.pdf

VirtualBox has probably a better integration, including both host and guest support. Note that there is a KVM port to illumos, an OpenSolaris kernel fork.

That's a very interesting article on KVM in illumos. Thank you. And it mentions the reason why I'm more interested in KVM than Virtual Box: "...KVM makes heavy use of Linux-specific facilities..." The selling point for KVM has been the rhetorical question: why should we have a separate hypervisor that allocates memory, time slices and other resources when that's exactly what the Linux kernel does? And sadly, you can't run VB and KVM simultaneously.

I detect sarcasm that I didn't know about where to get Oracle Solaris, but in fact, I was quite disappointed when Oracle shutdown OpenSolaris and have been checking the illumos and OpenIndiana pages every once-in-a-while hoping for signs of enthusiasm and growth. But I lost track of what Oracle was doing.

Sorry if you understood my reply that way. There was absolutely no sarcasm intended.
