I have a Network Connection proble on Solaris 10

Masters,

I need your help. I'm just a newbie. I installed Solaris 10 on my Dell PowerEdge 650 Server. My problem is I can't connect to the network. I can ping my IP from another PC but I can't ping to going outside. If I ping an address like 192.168.10.1 it only prompt " 192.168.10.1 is alive". Even in the default loopback IP 127.0.0.1 it still prompt " 127.0.0.1 is alive" . I can not browse to the internet. Answers would be highly appreciated.

Thank You

Do you have a gateway configured? What is the output of
Code:
cat /etc/defaultrouter
netstat -rn
Also you may need to define a dns server in /etc/resolv.conf:
Code:
nameserver x.x.x.x

Any reason to install Solaris 10 instead of OpenSolaris ?

Why "only" ? Assuming 192.168.10.1 isn't your local IP address, that means LAN access is ok.

Which is very expected.

I had a very similar problem. Ended up installing Opensolaris and something must have changed because I got it working. Good luck.

Something has definitely changed. OpenSolaris bundles more drivers and implements nwam (network auto magic) which automatically configure the network at boot time and later provided a DHCP server is there. It simplifies also wifi configuration.
Solaris 10 and older need manual (re)configuration.
