how to remove applications in bootup

How can i know what services is running? I believe there are unwanted services running though I normally block all port and open the port that I needed. Still, I want to save some process. I'm new to solaris so pls bare with me. I done svcs -a but there are lots of output. I focus on online but
didn't know what to close since there are lots of them.

In Redhat, I normally chkconfig --list and turn off the unwanted applications. Is there same as in solaris 10? I know to disable by using svcadm disable <application> but I didn't know the application running in background.

I do top and I see some unwanted apps such as nscd, dtgreet, svc.startd
but when I do svcadm disable nscd, it says Pattern 'nscd' doesn't match any instances

Could someone help? thx!

"svcs -a" and "inetadm" will tell you.

Yes, that's one way to disable services (not applications which are launched by a user action).

You can have a look at these daemons manual pages to figure out if what they are used for and if it is safe to disable them.

I wouldn't call them unwanted:
Disabling nscd will slow down networking.
Disabling dtgreet will prevent you from being able to login outside in text only mode
Disabling svc.startd will make your system unusable.

Yes, have a look at the nscd manual page for the correct name to use.

Alternatively, if your Solaris release is recent enough, you can simply run the "netservices limited" command which will close all services but ssh (See: Secure by default http://www.opensolaris.org/os/commun.../projects/sbd/ )
