Dual screen i Solaris X86?

I have a Dell D600 Laptop with a ATI mobility 9000 graphics card, running 1400 x 1050. In addition I have a TFT screen connected, running 1680 x 1050. Now I want to use dual screen. Is it possible? How do I do that? Edit xorg config file? Any pointers? Any websites that could be helpful for me?

What happens by default, is that both screens run 1400 x 1050 and they show the same picture, they are cloned.

Are you sure it is possible? I know that Nvidia has device drivers with "tvinview" that does allows dual monitors. Ive read several posts about that. However, there are no such posts with ATI graphics card, as ATI doesnt support Solaris.

As xorg exists for Solaris, could I in principle, just copy a xorg configuration file for dual monitors for Linux, and use it under Solaris? Is it that simple? Or must ATI device driver support dual screen? Is it xorg, or ATI?

Ati + dual monitor is indeed possible. I don't know about your specific resolution but I have done it in linux with xorg. Not with solaris. Instead of twinview, I used xinerama.

Hope it helps

Kebbabert, I believe you want enabling more than one video output from a single card.

Xinerama is, as far as I know, a different beast used to enable two ore more cards outputs.

I think too that for the former feature, proprietary drivers are required, so nVidia is probably a better option with Solaris.

For a better answer, I recommend the OpenSolaris laptop forum:
