Hi.
If you need pointers to documentation, docs.sun.com and opensolaris.com are the place to go.
The quickest way to have a NIC up and running, given you know which NIC you're using, would be:
- touching /etc/hostname.yournic to have your NIC plumbed at Solaris startup
- touching /etc/dhcp.yournic to have your NIC be configured by DHCP.
If you don't know which NICs are configured you can issue:
Code:
# dladm show-phys
LINK MEDIA STATE SPEED DUPLEX DEVICE
rge0 Ethernet unknown 0 unknown
and in this case your NIC would be rge0.
Once this is done, you'd probably have to configure:
- a default route into /etc/defaultrouter (just type the IP addresses of your gateways, one per line)
- the name resolver IP, in /etc/resolv.conf (if DHCP didn't do that for you)
- /etc/nsswitch.conf accordingly to your configuration
If you're using OpenSolaris you can enable Network Auto Magic service and disable network/physical:default:
Code:
# svcs network/physical
If nwam is enabled you'll see a line like this:
Code:
online 13:40:04 svc:/network/physical:nwam
If it's not, enable it:
Code:
# svcadm disable network/physical:default
# svcadm enable network/physical:nwam
Hope this helps,
Enrico
