Building, packaging and installing applications in (Open)Solaris

Hi

I am in the process of downloading the iso images of OpenSolaris repo for x86.

AFAIK there is also BlastWave as a repository of packages for Solaris and OpenSolaris.

Considering that I use a lot of stuff that is not packaged yet, although i have the source code of it... how hard is it to build applications in (O)Sol...?

This is not Linux... aren't makefiles different...? does it use the Gnu Toolchain to build libraries and executables...?

I am talking of Apps like Salome Platform, Code Aster, Paraview, OpenFOAM, Calculix, GMSH, NetGen, Scilab, Octave, QTOctave...

I built my own packages for Slackware, and I am in the process of building a "private" repo for Arch Linux...

doing the same in (O)Sol would be way out of my competence level, wouldnt it...?

There are several OpenSolaris repositories of various size but none seems to have the apps you cite outside octave which is at least in ips.enst.fr.

How easy is to build applications for (Open)Solaris mainly depends on the apps themselves. One popular build method is using spec file extra (SFE).
