You list "Slackware 10.0" for you distro - but Slack's latest is 9.1. So are you using Slack
or some other distro? What type of drive is /dev/hda? Is it IDE or SCSI?

Pull the side of the case off and look to see if the drive is hooked to an IDE or SCSI interface.
I didn't realize there was a 10.0rc1 as I've never run and development Slack.

Is it configured as Master or CS (cable select)

in my experience slackware dont like cs, but is perfectly fine with proper master/slave settings

I have also installed it on things like hdb and hdd with no probs, just as long as they are configured correctly
