Slackware 'current's installer has a 'simple' install option for lilo. It didn't work for me. I thought I'd explain why...
When scanning for and adding windows partitions it tries to add something like this:
Code:
other=/dev/sda1
label=Windows
table=/dev/sda
But when you have more than one windows partition (2 in this example) it instead makes a bogus entry like:
Code:
other=/dev/sda1
/dev/sda2
label=Windows
table=/dev/sda
Which clearly gives an error and means lilo fails to install the MBR at all. I predict noob head-scratching.
It should go:
Code:
other=/dev/sda1
label=Windows1
table=/dev/sda
other=/dev/sda2
label=Windows2
table=/dev/sda
It is quite common for old machines from people like DELL and NEC to have two windows partitions. One of them is very small and intended for their system recovery junk. Because DELL etc. do it, it is very reasonable to expect noobs will encounter this problem.
No-idea who's script it is that is going wrong. Can someone drop this post in the relevant bug-tracker please? Brilliant.
Cool. I didn't think lilo even ran on new hardware anymore. I much prefer lilo over maximum hassle grub.
