slackpkg update not working

Hello,

New ryzen machine, nvme drive, installing slackware64-14.2 using the following link:

https://alien.slackbook.org/blog/bui...all-slackware/

Install went well. Dropped into the shell (did not reboot). Set up my slackpkg mirror and ran "slackpkg update".
This is the output I get (tried with 3 other mirrors with the same result).

root@darkstar:/# slackpkg update

Downloading ftp://slackware.cs.utah.edu/slackwar...4-14.2/GPG-KEY...

Error downloading from ftp://slackware.cs.utah.edu/slackware/slackware64-14.2/.
Please, check your mirror and try again.

Any ideas?

"...unable to resolve host..."

This is usually a DNS issue. Your network is not set up properly, I do believe. Can you ping anything?

Code:
ping -c2 google.com
If not, then you'll probably have to check on your network setup:

Code:
# netconfig
Let us know what you find.

I'd try a different mirror if only for testing purposes.

No, I can not ping anything. Live-slack is still working, but I am in the "chroot /mnt" environment. I tried netconfig with no success. Do I need to "bind" to anything to reach my network?

All you probably need to do is to add a nameserver to /mnt/etc/resolv.conf.
Like a public one:
Code:
nameserver 8.8.4.4
If you configured your new system to use DHCP then the /etc/resolv.conf file will be edited by your DHCP client (NetworkManager or dhcpcd) and that has not happened yet because you have not rebooted.

And this is why Alien Bob gets paid the BIG BUCKS!

Seriously, though... thanks for popping in and assisting, Eric.

Actually, this Slackware eats up all my free time with the transition to PAM, Qt5 etc... and I am not the one getting paid for this. I do it to make my own laptop experience a better one and to have less maintenance in future.

From What I have read about Eric is he is a very giving wonderful family man that makes zip off the os.
I am sure if you look at input to output his financial input is much higher than output in monetary value.
But when it comes to life long community I am sure we will erect his statue next to Pat's. I am Sure Robby will be watching.
As a mater of Fact drop a big donate to him on his blog. So we can Bear along

I know that, Eric. I was making a facetious attempt at humor in the above posting.

D@mn. I did not intend to besmirch Eric Hameleers' reputation in any way. I have the utmost respect for the man and all he's done for Slackware over the years (R. Workman, also).

I regret my poor attempt at humor. Must be an American thing... lost in translation.

Again, sincerest apologies to anyone who took that comment wrong. I'm tempted now to edit and remove it, but that would make these replies nonsensical.

Regards,

~Eric L.

Thumbs up

@vtel57, not your fault. Mr. slackware-current has already been reprimanded by Jeremy for poor conduct on these boards. And I will vouch for your current reputation of 3 light green squares.

You may proceed as you were.
