Exclamation Problems With Gnome And Kde | Windows Are Empty

Hopefully someone can help me with this.

I installed slack 10.1 on a 1.3GHz machine.

I am using the 2.4 kernel.

Installed fine.

When I use Gnome or KDE all windows are clear and they don't display anything unless I mouse over a button like the minimize or close then only that button shows up in that part of the window. When I open programs they are completely clear and I can only see the outline.

When I drag a window or program the old window or program outline is in the old and new spot.

I am using the builtin graphics card.

It is a Intel 820.

I am using the Intel 810 option with xorgconfig.

Please help.

Any ideas?

Andrew

Can you try another window manager (you can do this with xwmconfig) ?
Also, are you sure your graphic card is a Intel 820? Try posting the output of:
Code:
/sbin/lspci | grep VGA

Output:

00:01.0 VHA compatible controller: Intel Corp. 82810E DC-133 CGC (rev 03)

I try other window managers but they do almost the same thing. Can't see windows, text, stuff like that.

seems to me that it is a graphics driver problem. I am using i810 on a pc, but i am not sure it is the best driver for 820. Did you try vesa driver...just to see?
