Question No graphical installation available on Slackware 12.0


Whenever i boot from the Slackware 12.0 dvd I got the text mode, i even continue and choose the packages but in the end all i got is the text mode,
Is it my Monitor or what?

Even if you install the X server and desktop environment packages, the default run level is set to 3, so X won't be running when you load Slack. You can of course log in and run startx, but if you want to have a graphical login, then change your default run level to 4 (4 is correct for Slackware). You need to edit the file /etc/inittab and change the line "id:3:initdefault:" to "id:4:initdefault:". You'll need to be root to edit the file.

so after installation i should change my runlevel, but i was thinking that 4 is undefined and 5 is the gui,

Nope. 4 is X11 and 5 is unused (but configured the same as runlevel 3).

It is that way for many other distros; this is kind of a peculiarity about Slackware. It caught me off guard the first time I ran across it too.
