Question Newbie Installation


OK OK,
i'm a total newbie, in english and in Linux, but not a total on UX systems...

i have some knowledge in AIX SOLARIS and UP-UX

i've downloaded the first two CDs

i've made a boot disk with the command RAWRITE bare.i a:

changed the first boot device and booted...

but after that screen of boot with the "boot:" prompt where i ve typed ENTER, not happens, it give to me a message that the could not find the kernel image...


WHAT should i do???

a linux course? ehehehhehe


help me please!!!

Use the distribution installer

As a newbie I would recommend that you use one of the many fine distributions available. Most come with very handy installers.

After you get familiar with the linux packages and options you may want to hack your system from scratch or join any of the teams that build distributions.

typed "ENTER" or hit enter key? Try typing "bare.i" or just hit enter key.

you should hit the enter key not to type ENTER

I didnt TYPED I hitted ENTER, Im a newbie but not this kind of loser...

After HIT ENTER,

Loading vmlinuz...............

boot failed please change disks and press a key to continue...

I dont have two boot disks, only one...



PS: And already tested with another diskette...

hi there

if u have the 2 CDs
then why are u booting with that floppy disk

boot from the 1st CD

follow this tutotrial here

yeah...
its the same question I made to myself yesterday...

after choosing partition, formating, etc... it booted and didnt loaded...
today I'll install it with more attention, following your tutorial...

yes this tutorial as it is nicely compiled one you won't have any problem as it covers all the posssible cases for installing slack linux
