Question new install 13.1, no vmlinuz in boot

I'm sure someone's encountered but searching for days on this forum and can't find a solution.

I installed slack 13.1 and it installed without a hickup except no lilo setup dialog ever launched, no problem... i would just run liloconfig from a terminal before exiting install. running liloconfig just gives me a return prompt, no dialog, no error, etc.

I rebooted using 13.1 dvd and found that there is no /etc/lilo.conf

more importantly though, there is no vmlinuz in /boot.

nor was there an initrd.gz.. however I read the readme and made one.

My question where is the vmlinuz?

Installed on two different machines
on single partition formatted with ext2, sata harddrive, intel controller on one, atto on the other.
any ideas?

I thought it would have been installed through the installation gui... according to the instructions I read, never mind found "the docs"
