however when I boot from disc, and it asks me for kernel, it gives me some message about corrupt kernel... I have read something about a thing called md5, which I downloaded in windows, dragged and dropped the iso file into it:
sorry for the huge post, but wanted to make sure I have all the relevant info to hand...
am I missing anything, or doing something wrong?
any other info needed, I'll be pleased to post, as I would really like to get Slackware working.
many thanks for your time.

Mog.

md5sum is a way to check with a very low margin of error that the file on your hard disk is identical to the original one, that is to say not corrupted.

Look for the md5sum file, ending in ".md5" which correspond exactly to the .iso file you downloaded on the repository from which you downloaded it.

Then download this .md5 file, open it e.g. with notepad and copy/paste the content (which will be one characters string) on the second field and click "verify".

It will tell you if the .iso file is OK or not.

the iso seems corrupted,
Code:
 cat slackware64-13.37-install-dvd.iso.md5
96352381b9233c11c6c735ee7f79934b slackware64-13.37-install-dvd.iso
which does not correspond to the screenshot's value

I'll take your word for that, and try again... have been trying, but as simple as the md5sum thing might be, I've been having a nightmare with it, not really knowing what I need or need to do.

Will report back if anything changes.

Many thanks again.

Mog.

forgive if I am being naive, but I am guessing that it is for use in a linux system?
or should I boot from disc and then try the commands the site is suggesting?

thanks.

You are right, this article is for Linux. You have done it the right way and it shows that your downloaded ISO is corrupted. Download it again and give it another try, with checking the md5sum first, of course.

finally

thanks for all the posts and help, I finally got it sorted, and am even online too... though not sure how, just played with it a little bit, and it worked lol (really am hopeless)
when I can find the solved button and hit that I will.

my thanks to all again.

Mog.

forgot to mention... I downloaded slackware 13.37 iso using utorrent in windows, and the md5sum number was matching, so from the info you gave, I knew it was good to go.
Thanks again.
