Kernel 2.61 installed but it doesn't work!

Hi all,
Sorry for all these questions, but I am generaly new to Linux so therefor I am asking!
Here is what I have done:
During the isntallation procedure I chooced the 2.6 Kernel to be installed.
After that I inserted the second disk to be able to access the linux-2.61 folder.
I did all of this after the installation had finished so not reboot yet.
I then typed pkgtool and installed the 2.61 generic as well as the modules and alsa driver. A program required me to have the 2.61 sources of the Kernel to be installed so I answered yes to that as well.
After that I rebooted the machine but then it doesn't boot!
I did another install without the sources and it rebooted. What am I doing wrong?
Since I have to rely on Speakup the screen reader for visually impaired people I cant see the error message why it doesn't boot. Any help is apreciated, many thanks!

initrd required

Hi

I don't think installing the sources could prevent your system from booting. However, with the 2.6 kernels you usually need to setup an initial ramdisk. It sounds as if this could be the problem.
Instructions on how to set this up can be found in the directory with the kernel package on the Slackware CD if I remember correctly. Just look for anything related to initrd.

The best of luck!

Hi! My name is Hendronicus. When you installed the second kernel did the installer lilo that one, or the 2.4 kernel which is the default? I'm thinking that it just did the first one and that's the problem.
The easy way to fix this is to edit the symlinks in your /boot directory to point to the 2.6 kernel and re-run lilo. I hope this helps.
