Installation confusion, lilo may be the issue.

Ok, so a bit ago I tried Zenwalk, installed it sucessfully and testdrove it so to speak. After the release of slackware 11 I thought it would be fun to try.

Before I forget to mention, I have an HPze2000 dualboot xp/linux flavor of my choice

I downloaded the .iso images of cd1-3 and put them to cd-r's; all went well. loaded them onto my computer, went through the installation, no errors to be noticed. It then said installation was complete and to reboot the system which I did.

Upon re-entering my compy I found lilo working, but.... it still had Windows/Zenwalk there for startup, as opposed to windows/slackware as one might presume. Any ideas how I can edit the lilo file or do whatever it is I need to do to make my slackware work.

thank you very much, message me or ask on here if anything of my problem is unclear. I'm off to mess around with it again, I'll check this forum soon on my other compy. TY!!

you can try 'liloconfig' or just edit '/etc/lilo.conf' manually to add the entry. See 'man lilo.conf'. Then run '/sbin/lilo' to apply your new settings.

~solved~!!

I wasn't putting the LILO on the mbr. I was afraid it would cause irreversible damages, silly me I suppose.

I also enabled hotplug thingy the first few times I tried the installation, my success came after I told it not to and put lilo on mbr.

Thank you for your reply I do really appreciate the assistance.

I hate that warning ... it causes more problems than it solves. It's very rare that an install to the MBR will cause any kind of problems ... it's much more common that NOT installing it to the MBR will cause all kinds of problems.

a/lilo-22.8-i486-3.tgz: Restored device-mapper support. Made the MBR the
default selection in the LILO target menu.
Installation of lilo to MBR is now the default in slackware-current.
