Detecting Adaptec I20 RAID controllers...

Hey ya'll,

I've had success installing Slackware 11.0 but when I try to install Slackware 12.2 (I've tried different kernals) my install hangs at:

alua: device handler registered
Loading Adaptec I20 RAID: Version 2.4 Build 5go
Detecting Adaptec I20 Raid Controllers...

After that nothing happens..

I've tried starting the install with Slackware 11 CDs than switching to 12.2 but that does not work.

Both Slackware 11 and Slackware 12.2 CDs were purchased from the Slackware store. Any suggestions on how to install Slackware on my Laptop Dell Inspiron 2500?

Thanks,
ODMahowny

Hi, this is me replying to my own thread.

Slackware 12.2 won't work so I've been using 11.

No big deal, just wanted to give ya'll an update. All is well in this slackers world =)

Sorry I didn't notice this thread earlier! A couple of us have been investigating this exact problem on another thread:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...roblem-702994/

Bottom line, if your computer has this problem you can't complete a normal Slackware 12.2 installation. However, on my Dell Inspiron 2650 I was able to compile a 12.2 kernel that omits the SCSI low level drivers, and that custom kernel boots correctly and appears to run properly.

Susceptible computers noted so far:

Dell Inspiron 2500
Dell Inspiron 2650
Toshiba Satellite 3000 (precise model unknown)

The model of my laptop suffering a hang due to the Adaptec I2O RAID controller is:

Toshiba Satellite, model number PS192E-00UTN-EN according to sticker underneath. There is also a "S1900-305" if that is less cryptic! It is a Pentium 4, 2.4GHz, 512Mb, 30Gb HD model.
