CD Booting

I'm a complete newbie to Linux, and I'm trying to give myself a crash course by installing slackware. My question is: Why won't the CD boot? I downloaded and burned the ISO myself, the MD5 checks out, and my BIOS is set to try to boot from the floppy, then CD, then HD. Do I need to get a boot floppy or something?

Thanks for your help--

did you burn your cd as an image; this is different than simply burning the iso to the cd?

Yes, I burned the CD as an image. I just got done doing the same thing with Vector, and the CD boots fine. Vector, however, is not what I want to install.

i would have to guess that the iso is somehow damaged. i would suggest downloading again even though md5 checked out, i have had this happen to me before.

Slack 10.0 won't boot either

My ISO's checked out md5sum wise too and they simply won't boot with either my IDE CD-ROM nor my SCSI CD-ROM. How annoying! Wait till they make non-bootable dvd iso's. Way to go boey!

If you want to make it bootable though, I saw this link here at LQ.org. It's a How-to to make your own bootable Slackware CD.

Why should *I* have to do this though?! (mom!!! slackware made their sandbox invisible again!)

I wish that Slackware would post a note if they are going to take away a modern convience such as a bootable install cd on their website in HUGE bold print!

ugh!

Hey SLaCk! If you build it, they will come!

I would also suggest Smart Boot Manager.
