I just got Slackware 10 installed and KDE 3.2 running. Though, I'm having a few problems here :
1. The biggest screen resolution available in KDE is 640x480, though I edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf as Insyte's Slackware Tut told me to. I added 1280x1024 resolution to there where the tut told me but still no luck. I thought I would have to find the drivers for my graphics card which is radeon 9200se, but the only ones I found from the ATI site were some *.rpm stuff. Is there a "standard graphics card driver" for linux or something which would support 1280x1024? My screen is Samsung SyncMaster 753s, if it matters.
2. I can't get online with Slackware yet which is presumable because I don't know how to set up the connection. I'm using a cable modem which is connected to the PC by the ethernet port or whatever. Any tips?
I'm glad if there is some kind soul out there to help I think I'm going to have many of these asking sessions here, but isn't the forum made for it :P ?
The graphics driver 'radeon' included with Xorg should work fine. But if you want 3D acceleration you'll need to use ATI's proprietary binary drivers. If you're happy using the radeon driver you can just run 'xorgconfig' and choose it when prompted. Be sure to backup your existing xorg.conf first though.

hmm. I ran the xorgconfig and did what you told me to, but still it seems that nothing happened... I'll run it again then.................... (I have the whooooole night to do this)
Did you configure the screen resolutions when you ran 'xorgconfig'? If not, run it again and when you get to where it asks you to set up the screen resolutions, you should set it up so that 1280x1024 comes first in the resolution order as this is the default resolution that will be used by the X-server. Sorry, I can't remember the exact steps to do this.

Ok, now I got it running. It was just that I actually didn't read the last step, just pushed Enter... this time I copied the file to the /etc/X11/ folder manually and now the 1024x768 started working (...n000b...) Now I just to find out why the 1280x1024 doesn't work... *goes editing xorg.conf*
Thanks anyways

ok, now I did, but I just don't know what settings to put in there to get the system working. I'm using a cable modem, but is it just "the same" what I enter to the host- and domain-fields However, I understood that DHCP (or what) is the option for me (?) I'm confused...
Ok, I got it working with "ifconfig eth0" (or I think so, I don't have a clue of what it did but anyways the connection started working after that). *goes * Can be closed (if you close posts in this forum anyways)
