After shrinking my disk with Gparted, I have created a swap partition (sda6) and a root partition (sda7) for Slackware 64 current. I have used the kernel and the initrd.img from the current repositories.

Mounted swap and root, selected http sources and selected all the packages, the installer show a progression of series installed, but the target partition is almost empty (only /var and /lost+found are created). Instead of generating an error message the installer doesn't look it's doing much.

I have tried both http and ftp mirrors, after 4 hours I have given up.

Has anybody had the same problem? No relevant logs seem to have been created. Before trying with the stable installer, I wonder if anybody comes up with any clue.

Have the packages perhaps been installed in the installer's filesystem (i.e. in the Kernel RAM)? Could be caused by wrong choice of the TARGET partition.

Thanks for your reply but this is not the case unfortunately. Neither the RAM nor the filesystem can accommodate the installed size.

The target is mounted correctly (mount shows /dev/sda7 on /mnt).

In the meantime I have downloaded the -current dvd image from your own repositories, copied over the kernel and the initrd.img onto the usb boot paertition, so I am using the ones from the dvd.

The only way I can install any packages succesfully is by running pkgtool from the mounted directory. which if I remember correctly is /mnt/var/tmp/something). I was able to install the /a and /ap series but no fstab was created.

I wonder if this has got something to do with the gpt partition.

In the meantime I will now retry using the initrd.img from the stable repos. There's no reason to change the kernel as I think if there is a bug, that could be with the setup script.


EDIT: I have (almost) solved the problem by using the stable kernel and initrd.img and then mounting the dvd image and from there I was able to install the required packages. I now have a semi-working installation and I need to sort out the networking side.

In my opinion there is a bug in the -current installer.
