can't get rp-pppoe

I've tried the same configuration from a laptop and it worked fine.
I was confident in trying it on an ARM box running Slackware ARM 14.1 freshly updated but it fails.
I started pppoe-start in debug mode and got this log file.
The only thing that seems to give error is setsid .... but it's there and it's not missing any libs. Anyone have any ideas as to why it's not working ?

I went trough the setup procedure again and found out that ppp was missing.
Once installed ppp everything worked again: I'm editing this message using it right now.
