Yes, this is the reason. I need to automatically update the PI to get all the security updates but don't want to worry if something might be broken now.

After figuring out that installing 15.0 is not straight forward and that I might not be able to use 8GB of RAM, I just went with Debian (works fine). Once we have a stable 15.1 I'll give it a try.

On a Raspberry Pi 4 with 8GB RAM the Raspberry Pi OS is reported to see and use the full 8GB but with the proviso that every process is limited to using 3GB max. Raspberry Pi engineers have stated that the OS itself can use all 8GB and they use LPAE for making it happen. How that's achieved I don't know.
