Zip drive & Slack 12

How can I mount an external parallel-port Zip drive under Slackware 12.0 or 12.1? The ppa module is installed. I can't find anything about the Zip drive in dmesg (I don't see all of dmesg). I don't get a message when I insert a disk in the drive.

Take the following with a grain of salt, I haven't used ppa and ZIP drives for several years.

The ppa module depends upon the parport_lowlevel module. Is that also installed?

You might also check your computer's BIOS settings, it is not that uncommon for newer machines to default to having the parallel port disabled.

If I get a chance (and your problem isn't solved by then), on Sunday I will dig out my old ZIP drive and investigate further.

After loading the "ppa" module, run the following:

mount -t vfat /dev/sda4 /mnt/zip

For some reason it seems to only use /dev/sda4. Of course "/mnt/zip" can be any mountpoint you choose.
