Have anyone installed yahoo in slackware ?
I've download yahoo package for freebsd from yahoo. But I can't installed it. I tried to install package with kpackage. Still can't run ymessenger.
Can someone help me ? Thanks.
I could never get ymessenger to work from the download at the Yahoo site. Get Gaim, it has pluggins for just about every chat client there is and you can load as many as you want all at once. I love Gaim, it works great.
The Linux version of the Messenger runs on the Intel chipset and has been tested on RedHat 6.1, 6.2, 7.1 and 7.2l; Debian Sid and Woody; and Mandrake 8.1.
The FreeBSD version of the Messenger has been tested on FreeBSD 4.5.
The Solaris version of the Messenger runs on the Sparc chipset and has been tested on Solaris (SunOS 5.7) Sparc.
Software Requirements: These packages require X Windows, GTK 1.2 or greater, openssl 0.9.6 or greater and gdk-pixbuf 0.8.0 or greater
Please Note: If you are running a UNIX system other than those listed above, you probably won't be able to run Yahoo! Messenger

Your kernel does not contain Gaim. You can download the lastest Gaim from Linux Packages I believe. I use the updated Gaim from Dropline on a Slackware 9 and don't have any problems. I seem to remember that previous versions used to have trouble connecting to the Yahoo! network, but as a lot of the proprietry IM services actively try to block people from using other then the default clients, you can't really blame Gaim or any of the other GNU/Linux clients. Good luck ;-)
I don't know if Gaim is on the Slack CDs or not. I just switched from Mandrake and haven't gotten everything installed. However you install it, the plugins are already part of the package. Just install it and configure it for the chat clients you want to use and you're set.
