And given the newness of your video card, the support for it in 'nv' is probably quite limited. Install the nvidia drivers and be happy.

Cool, thank, I will try the new xorg.config file with startx and see what happens, any idea where I can get the nvidia drivers for linux that will support my card, I haven't had any luck finding any.

There's a "Download Drivers" link right on nvidia.com.
They're also available on SlackBuilds.org (nvidia-driver and nvidia-kernel).

Yes, they are simply the files from nvidia, but the slackbuild will create slackware packages out of them that can be installed with installpkg and removed with removepkg.

Ok I installed the nvidia drivers but nothing changed, when I installed it it asked me if I wanted to reconfigure x I said yes and it made a new config file and replaced the old one, but when starting x again it's the same it still looks like it's only using the 256bit color. Im out of ideas, anyone have any ideas, what's weird is I didn't have these graphics issues when I had ubuntu installed, ubuntu is just way to bloated.

We'd really have to see the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file that was generated to know what's going on.

Well it's definitely running in 24 bit depth. It even sees that you have an HP Compaq WF1907 attached. I'm not much of an nvidia driver expert, but maybe the driver is unable to query the monitor for support modes for some reason, and is falling back to a low resolution. Do you have 'nvidia-settings' installed? Maybe you can launch that one you get into X and see if you can adjust the resolution there.

yeah I have already done that, it's running at the correct resolution and what not, 1440x900 it's just the color bit is all jacked up for some reason. and it only does it in slackware, maybe it's xfce window manager, I should try to install kde and see if the samething happens with kde. I will give that a shot and post the resaults

You could try fluxbox as it's much smaller than KDE and won't take as long to install. I would be surprised if the problem is specific to xfce4. Have you tried adjusting the gamma settings? I assuming nvidia-settings has an option for that, too.

Adamn, this might help you understand the issue better, if I look at pictures or the desktop icons those look just like they should, what looks like crap is graphics in the browser and when up I open up any menu light right click on the desktop or something like that, the color is all jacked up and all the icons in any menu are really jacked up looking, any ideas where to go from here, btw, same issue in kde.
