XFCE 4.8 Dual Screen (Only Clone)

I am trying to get dual screen working on XFCE 4.8 (Same issue over Slackware and Arch).

I am using the VGA out on my laptop to connect a second monitor which I use to provide a larger surface area for working. This setup works flawlessly on Gnome2 and 3, KDE 4.5.x and KDE 4.6.x however not on XFCE.

The issue is that with XFCE 4.8, I can only achieve a cloned output. I am using the ATI Open Source driver.

If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to chime in.

Thank you

What happens if you use 'xrandr' to position one monitor to the right of the other?
