x servers packages in slackware 9.0

hello,

i'm trying to install slackware 9.0 cdrom on an old 486 with only 250Mo hdd. So i can't install gnome nor kde.

Nevertheless i want a graphical interface, so i installed the xbase package. But... i cant startx... the screen become black.

I've configured xfree lot of times with xf86config or xf86cfg. but i can't find XF86Setup...

what's more i see that i have no xservers package, so perhaps i need a xserver, but why can't i find it on the slackware iso?

anyone could help me?

try installing FluxBox or BlackBox,.. they are very lightweight window managers, and they may fit on your hard drive. i'm not positive though. then perhaps you'll be running alright.

yes i already have it. But it is not worth installing it if x cant work with the basic windows manager.

I've discovered that in Xfree 4.3 there were no more servers, but now the problem is i know exactly what is my video chipset : Cirrus Logic LG5480. But, when i select the driver in xf86config, after saving the XF86Config, and when i start x it says me that it cant detect the device.

si it cant detect my card although i see its specification in the bios. i tried the generic driver and the problem is the same.

Is it due to Xfree version im using is too recent?

i will try with slackware 7.
