wireless problems

im having some difficulty configuring my wireless configuration on slackware 9. im using the default wireless package that was installed from slack9 and a linksys WPC11 card. im assuming that my problem lies in configuring /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts correctly.

if anyone could provide some example configurations or a link to a good tutorial, id appreciate it.

man iwconfig ...but seriously, most all those options are eventually passed to iwconfig so the man should guide you.

before messing too much with wireless.opts, make sure it's being read and used by your system by adding a logger statement to the beginning of it, eg: "logger wireless.opts is being read", then check your log to verify that on a cardctl insert the wireless.opts file is being called. On a couple of my boxes it never gets used.

Once you've verified that cartctl is picking up your card, make sure your wireless interface is up and running. For instance, in my case, eth1 is my wireless card :

# ifconfig eth1 up
# dhcpcd -t 30 -d eth1 -n

That activates my wireless card then polls a dhcp server for an address.
