ok, i just installed slackware 10 (was using 9.1 before this) and everything was going fine at first. But now, after I recompiled the kernel and reinstalled lilo, although all the settings in lilo.conf are the same, I can't boot into my Windows partition (using Windows XP SP1). I tried using OSL 2000 which has no problems booting into Windows so I know nothing is wrong with the windows partition. Any other ideas on how I can "fix" lilo so that it will boot into windows. Thanks!!
OK, I have several boxes which are dual boot (Linux & Windows 2000, WinXP Pro, WinXP Home, etc.).
The way I do the dual boot thing, is I let the Windows do the power-up boot and then I select either Windows or Linux, thru the windows boot loader. I use lilo to create a 512 byte boot file that Windows NT Loader (still being used in Win2K, WinXP) loads and gives me the lilo-boot prompt. On some machines, Windows is the default selection and on others Linux is. That is the beauty of it all.
For a step by step proceedure, please look at /usr/doc/Linux-HOWTOs/Linux+WinNT

Post your lilo.conf file...sometimes it might look the same, but something small has changed that you don't notice
Did you compiled a 2.6.x kernel? I am not sure, but i thought about that bug that screwed up the disc geometry. I had the same prob, BUT that was with the 2.6.6 kernel in combination with grub.
If this is the case (and i am not sure) then setting the config of your HD in the bios to LBA (instead of AUTO) can be a solution. If this doesn't work.. then you have to remove ALL partitions of your harddrive and create them again.
AGAIN, don't perform that remove all those partitions (!) if you're not sure that the problem is caused by that 2.6.x bug what i talked about.
Yep, follow HumJohn's lead. I dual boot XP/Slack 10 (2.6.6 then now 2.6.7) and I use pretty much the same method because i had trouble using Lilo for the power up boot.
