My recommendations:
(1) Get Win4Lin 5.0. Your upgrade cost should be nothing to minimal. My understanding is that Win4Lin 5.0 is much better than Win4Lin 4.0. I have never used Win4Lin 4.0 but I do use Win4Lin 5.0 and I find it very good.
(2) When getting Win4Lin 5.0, make sure that you get their "retail box" version sent to you with a new graphical installer and all and make sure it has built in support for Slackware 9.1. Don't try to download kernels, etc. from their website and attempt to do patches yourself. They (Netraverse) have not perfected that process at all and it didn't work for me when I tried it.
(3) Completely wipe your hard drive (backing up whatever data you need to beforehand) and do a clean reinstall of Slackware 9.1 from scratch.
(4) Run Win4Lin 5.0 to first install the Netraverse enabled kernel, then the Win4Lin interface and then the Windows that you want to use. All of this should go without a hitch.
