why startx sometimes not foundÉ

If I boot up and log on as root and the change to my username when I type startx I get a command not found message. This doesnèt happen if I log in as my username immediately after booting up. However, if I log in as a user and go into X, then I go out of X and switch to root, I am unable to get back into X.

Anyone know what this is aboutÉ

Are you "changing user" with su? If so, use su - that will load enviroment values, like: su - youruser

Also instead of changing users you could login the other users in another terminal (change between them with ALT+F1-F6), or simply logout from the terminal with exit.
