Where's the kernel log?

I just started using Slackware after a trial with Fedora Core 2, and I like it a lot. And in case there are any linux newbies like myself out here considering Slackware, shilo's install guide and DaOne's kernel compile guide are great.

Anyway, I just compiled myself a new kernel after about half a dozen misses and it's working great, but...

... is there a kernel log file somewhere that logs what is going on during boot so I can see if there are any errors that I might have?

In Fedora there was a System Logs item in the System Tools menu I think where I could look at various logs all in a nice little GUI. Is there anything like that in Slack? All I could find in the menu is the system log, and I can't find an actual kernel log text file anywhere...

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question... slap me if it is...

Thanks... that looks like exactly what I'm looking for. Aside from the kernel and system logs, any suggestions for other logs that I should check out for good clean system operation?

Depends on what daemons/software you are using, but all log files are in /var/log/ and subdirectories. Some generic usefull ones are:
/var/log/messages
/var/log/syslog

yip, and another one worth looking at is /var/log/xorg.0.log,
wich contains messages from the x-windows system.
