What is Disk 3 and 4 for??


Hi I was just wondering what disk 3 and 4 are for??

They contain the source code and config files used to create all the packages on cd 1 & 2

oh and I was just wondering if I can install rpm packages with slackware??

you can (works the same way as any other rpm distro).... but imo its better to convert the rpm to tgz using rpm2tgz, then instlal the converted package.

the disks also contain some /extra packages I believe.

remember on rpm that slack does not have a rpm installed database, so rpm may give you dependency complaints. i would rather install from source. If that isn't an option then use rpm2tgz as trey stated.

Disc 3 - extras + source code + The Book
Disk 4 - ZipSlack (install Slackware on a vfat partition)

Most people don't need 3 & 4. As newbies will download 3 & 4 without knowing this, there is a lot of server bandwidth being wasted.
