Web account control panel for Slack 12.2?

Hi

I am currently attempting to setup a web control panel for users on my Slack 12.2 server (basically myself and a few family members) to manage our sites via a web interface and/or remotely. I have discovered that most of the control panel systems available (Cpanel, DirectAdmin, Plesk, Penguinator, etc) either don't "quite" support Slack or require drastic system alterations.

I did find a couple of Slack-friendly alternatives such as the Webmin/Usermin/Virtualmin package combination and Virtual Hosting Control System - VHCS.

Does anyone here have experience with configuring and using these systems and can provide recommendations? There is a SlackBuild for Webmin at slackbuilds.org (which I have built and am testing) but this is more Administrator oriented. The other Webmin based packages - Usermin and Virtualmin - are aimed at end users but no SlackBuilds are available for them at slackbuilds.org at the moment. I guess I will install them manually or build them myself. However if anyone has SlackBuilds ready, I will be extremely if these can be made available.

I am also considering VHCS. However the Slackware installation instruction available http://vhcs.net/new/modules/phpwiki/...%2010.x%20(en) are based on Slack 10.2 so should be quite outdated. If anyone has updated instructions, then once again, I will extremely grateful if these can be made available.

Cheers.

I have Webmin installed on my shared servers and reserve it for my admin use only. I offer Usermin to my users and it seems to work well for them so far especially the File Manager function. The only short coming of Usermin I have is it doesn't allow users to create MySQL databases otherwise it works as expected.

I use the setup.sh script that comes with both Webmin and Usermin and have not built packages. The programs installed in /opt on my systems. Both installations have survived well through both Slackware and Webmin/Usermin upgrades.

Thanks for the information Chuck. I was looking through the Usermin requirements and noticed that Authen::PAM module may be required. Did your Usermin installation on Slack require any add-ons or did work straight out of the box?

Cheers

Nope. I didn't install Authen::PAM for either Webmin or Usermin. They both worked without any addons. Webmin comes with a perl management module which I have used a few times to add other perl modules.
