vsftpd, refusing remote connects, refslackware, firewall settings and inetd

I am sure there is something simple that I am overlooking.

assuming inetd and / or rc.firewall error

New install Slackware I have SSH working, apache working and allowing connects on both.

fired up vsftp which works fine locally:
root@WEBserver:/home/michael# ftp localhost
Connected to localhost.
220 Welcome to Red Coyote FTP service.
Name (localhost:michael):
331 Please specify the password.
Password:
230 Login successful.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp>

but cannot connect from remote.

Any suggestions?

Michael

I guess it's a firewall issue. Check if port 21 (or other if you changed it in vsftpd.conf) is being blocked either by your system's or router's firewall.

We need more details about your configuration and how you are trying to connect remotely. Is your server on a static IP or dynamic, directly on the internet or behind a router firewall/gateway device? Also would be helpful if you posted the errors you get when trying to connect remotely.

vsftpd refusing connections

I did find I was missing a line in rc.firewall

$IPT -A INPUT -p tcp --dport ftp -m state --state NEW -s 0.0.0.0/0 -j ACCEPT

One of those I looked at it too hard to see it moments, I guess.

Thanks all.

Michael

what log would have shown the attempts, BTW? have not figured that out yet......
