VNC and X

I've installed VNC server on my Slackware box and I'm wanting to connect to it remotely using Win2000. I can connect fine but all I get is a tan screen with one terminal window on it. I'd like to be able to view the entire X windows desktop. I tried adding the path to the "startx" file into xstartup for VNC. When I tried running VNC after that it said my xauth file could not be found in my path. What exactly does this mean and what do I need to do to fix it? I'm fairly new to Linux so any explanations would help. Thanks.

as default, vnc using twm window manager. startx run on the machine directly (tty) and use the computer resources. I've tried VNCserver without VGA Card and it's work fine.

to change your window manager just edit your .xstartup, then put window manager you like, if you want KDE, type startkde & , if Gnome, type gnome-session&, of else.

FYI, i using fluxbox window manager, it's light fast and stable (www.fluxbox.org).

here my xstartup file for example :

ame@slackware:~$ cat .vnc/xstartup
#!/bin/sh

xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &

#twm &
#/opt/xpde/bin/XPde full &
#gnome-session &
#startkde &
#blackbox &

fluxbox &
