virtual screen Slackware 10

How do I get a virtual screen operating for
Slackware 10 in the window manager fvwm ?
Sometimes I need a stripped down manager like
fvwm and that virtual screen is quite helpful,
but Slackware 10 does not have it enabled like
earlier versions ( Slackware 4.0 ). How
do I get it going?

If you use the default slackware graphic login screen, you can pick your graphical desktop from the "Actions" menu when you login. If you really want different desktops running on several virtual screens (essentially multple gdm's running), I think you can edit /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf to that end.

Virtual screen? You mean where the "desktop" is larger than the physical screen and you scroll around it?

Assuming that's what you mean, just edit your xorg.conf and add a "Virtual" line to your screen section. For example, you might have something like

Section "Screen"
        DefaultDepth 24
        SubSection "Display"
                Virtual 1600 1200
                Depth 24
                Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
