upgrading my KDE desktop


I went to the site and there are so many files for the new KDE which one should i get or do i get one of them and run an install and it will auto compile it all for me?

forget it, it says that slackeware 8.0 cant run the newest kde.

Why? Every distro can! You just need to compile the source code. You need qt (from trolltech.com), arts, kdelibs, kdebase. After compiling them you'll have a working KDE. But there are much more packages. Decide which ones you'd like and compile them after.
Note that you need to compile qt with --thread.
All packages are just ./configure;make;make install.

As long as you have qt3 you can install kde-3.1-beta1.

For a normal work 3.0.3 is better. For people who like testing - 3.1beta.
