Question upgrade 9.0 to 9.1

whenever a new slack is released, i start reinstalling my half-a-dozen machines (firewall/router, mail server, children's machines, mine...), and i'm hopefully through in time for the next release...

how could i possibly upgrade - in a 'lossless' way, ie not losing all (or worse yet: some!) configuration information from 9.0 to 9.1? faster and safer (and less annoying!) than a plain reinstall?

surely not with swaret - i'd have to read all of the script in order to maybe understand what i could/should specify in the .conf file and/or on the command line.

and not with an endless chain of package tool commands, of which i'd forget one or two, most likely.

is there something around that's simple and safe?

swaret's probably the best tool for the job. You only have to really make a couple of edits to the configuration file, namely to tell it to upgrade against slackware-current (which I think is the default anyway) and then it's a simple matter of typing

Code:
swaret --update && swaret --upgrade -a

I'm fairly new to Slackware (having come from Mandrake). Isn't there an option during the CD install to upgrade to 9.1 rather than do a fresh install?

nope, there is an upgrade .txt on the cd that tells you how to upgrade, but this isnt that simple.

best thing to do is use swaret if u wanna upgrade, like mentioned above.

Is there a dummies guide to using swaret? I've never used anything like that before. I downloaded the first two Slackware 9.1 ISOs and burned them to a couple of CDs. Can I use these with swaret, or do I have to upgrade over the network?
