Updating GTK Help

Okay I'm trying to update my gtk so I can use gkrellem but im running into problems. I d/led pkg-config and the dependences (although I'm not sure what slackware already has), but anyway I install GLib and I get no errors but when I try to install pango it says I need to update GLib. So i'm thinking that the glib default install location is wrong, and that I might need to prefix the install location. But to be honest I have no clue how to fix this.

For those of you with slack that have sucessfully updated gtk could you help me out, suggest afew things I could try or straight up guide me through it it would be much appriciated. I've asked this question on other boards and noone has replied for ages

Code:

Perhaps you should add the directory containing `fontconfig.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
