u[n]mount?

hi all, a few questions here,

1. where is the n?

2. i could not unmount my cdrom from a normal (user) account, only root. which is VERY frustrating as i need to change cd all the time and now i have to logout and login as root to unmount and eject the previous cd before i can put the new one in. is there anyway to bypass this?

3. similarly, i can only access my windoze partition using my root account. is there anyway to enable a normal user to access/modify the windows partition?

all you need to do is use su, open a konsole window and............
Code:
su
<root password>
umount /dev/cdrom && eject
exit

you need to change your /etc/fstab file. for your first problem, find the fstab entry for your cd-rom and change "owner" to "users". for your second problem, find the fstab entry for your windows partition and add "umask=000".

edit your /etc/fstab

for you cd change owner to user (just change this to fit your system)

/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,user,ro,unhide 0 0

for your windoze partition add umask for ntfs its safer to be readonly (ro) for vfat rw is ok. again just change this to fit your partitions

/dev/hda1 /hda1 ntfs auto,ro,umask=000 1 0
/dev/hda5 /hda5 vfat auto,rw,umask=000 1 0
