Got it,

This is a problem between cups and turboprint.

This solution is for the following system:

Debian etch
2.6.15-1-686

I removed the following packages:

cupsys
gimp-print
gnome-cups-manager

(All 3 may not need to be moved)

Uninstalled and reinstalled turboprint 1.94

Set print system as lpr (or lpd, can't remember) during setup

set device name as /dev/lp0

connection as: local printer

spool directory as: /var/spool/lpd/turbo1

Testpage printed fine.

Will drop a line to turboprint I think...
