Thunar 1.6.7 in current frequently unstable

I saw it after upgrading to current Slackware somewhere in May this year.

Thunar often becomes unstable, freezes, turns itself off, some flickering of its displayed content also sometimes takes place.

It is happening on two different notebooks.

Any ideas fellow slackers ?

I compiled a 1.6.9 version using environment from Current.
I edited a slackware stock 1.6.7 build script exchanging "./configure" for "./autogen.sh".

The new Thunar works, but also sometimes turns off again, so no luck at this moment.

I am actually running Thunar-1.6.7 rebuilt with the patch referenced in the link I gave earlier. I do not see any problems.

Do you sometimes access (for example copy files) a pendrive ?

My Thunar 1.6.9 turns off while trying to backup files to a pendrive.

Same here, consequently I've downgraded to Thunar-1.6.6 and those problems disappeared.

With all due respect why would anyone choose Thunar? or is it simply a matter of grown used to it?

It's familiar, works well, and isn't too bloated.

Thank you, ReaperX7 for responding. I actually consider familiarity to be a reasonable argument there is just so much to know and the ability to build and grow a store of functional capital is an important one especially in the case of fundamental apps and services that gain little with new releases. Upgrading for the sake of merely new is very often detrimental. It's best if we can get the fundamentals done as simply and quickly as possible so that we can get on to current work asap.

So familiar is a good answer. I have some problems with "works well" and "bloated" since they have no objective meaning. An app feature that one man never uses and therefore considers as bloat, to someone else may be a deal-breaker must-have and to another a complementary frosting on the cake. I do a lot of my work in filemanagers.... so much so that I use 2 different ones for instantaneous job-specific formatting. For example for general work 85 of the time I just want 2 main panes with drives and parents on the left and subs and files on the right. Some work is just so much better served by 4 panes where one can cross-reference, drag 'n drop, etc in one stable place that I have either a dedicated FM app or dedicated launcher that selects a 4 pane profile to make this pure muscle memory fast.

OTOH I really don't like a profile that "drills down" too far on the left pane. This has the effect of clutter and unnecessary complexity for me. There must be some intangible (at least to me) quality as well since some FMs are usable and others I instantly dislike. Nautilus I hated but the old konqueror kfmclient was instantly likeable as was/is Elnlightenment's efm. Efm has the advantage of some very useful features, especially in rt.- clk dropdown menues and mouseover functions that just add to the already decent default layout and fuction.

Thunar otoh always seem primitive, spartan, and a bit clunky to me.

FWIW I have a long-term relationship with Krusader that still pleases me and is most often my 4-pane Go To File Manager.

I'm just so used to Thunar I really dislike the more customizable browsers like Dolphin and Nautilus. Too flashy, showy, and have the need to be so Windows-ish. Thunar's kind-sorta Windows-ish, but more like Win2k. Simple, yet elegant, functional, yet not loaded for eye candy..

That wasn't really my question, but okay. No need to look at spacefm...
