Perhaps, but it quite old...it might be a better bet to invest in, say, something like a complete command reference or something. Or something completely different (a man with three buttocks!). Most of the best information one will ever need is free and readily available from the internet.

That one isn't newer, its 2 years older.. look at the publishing date. Its from 1997, the first link you gave was from 1999.

How about Unix Power Tools by O`Reily I know its probably over-kill and for someone who dose not understand shell programing or command path
stuff it can be confusing, but so far this book has taught me alot about the Slackware filesystem. Also this is a realtively new book. It was printed in 2002

If your a sorta-noob, id suggest: "Running Linux" by the O'Reily Group. Its a really comprehensive and (IMO) really well written guide to all the basics, and some intermediate stuff. Its not just technical as well, its got a lot about the philosophy of Linux and OSS, and what you should(not) expect. Frankly, many people I talk to could do to read that section.

Thanks hecresper for those links!

I highly recommend Running Linux by O'Reilly publishers, and Linux System Commands by The Man ( Patrick Volkerding - founder of Slackware)

I recommned going to the tldp.org or looking through how-tos and web sites. Most of everything that you want to learn about Linux has allready been documented on the net. Even for programming with the shell, or c++, gtk and qt you will find many resources available. google.com/linux can be your best friend.

My 2 cents
