all --

Generic Kernel Version 6.1.7.kjh is running fine on my Slackware64 15.0 + Multilib LapTop.

ChangeLog-6.1.7 references CVE-2023-0179 ( not in DataBase ).

Code:
uname -msrpn: Linux kjhlt7.kjh.home 6.1.7.kjh x86_64 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-11900K @ 3.50GHz
firmware ...: kernel-firmware-20230117_7e4f0ed-noarch-1 # upgraded
NVidia Blob : NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-525.78.01.run
VMWare Blob : VMware-Workstation-Full-17.0.0-20800274.x86_64.bundle
I am going to postpone building, installing and testing the NVidia Blob -K Option with 6.1 -vs- 5.15 until this weekend so I can earn my paycheck today

its building ok but fails at boot if you have sof-firmware installed. something conflict when kernel trying to modoprobe audio modules...
no error in screen just stay there.
if you hit enter
appears next steps of boot
after few enter appears the line for login (init3)
but keyboard is dead.

Usually I don't play with rc kernels but your post prompted me to build rc because I am using SOF drivers. 6.2-rc4 works fine for me. The only issue I see during boot process is screen scrolling: at some point it stops and next line appears at very top of the screen and only this line is changing.
Aside from the issue with boot screen all works fine. I have SOF drivers installed and this laptop has
Device-1: Intel Tiger Lake-LP Smart Sound Audio driver: snd_hda_intel.

There are several versions of Tiger Lake audio so I might be just lucky.

The only error that I noticed aside from benign screen scroll is that thermal cpu (Intel Tiger Lake) sensor is not recognized.

Ok thank for your answer.
I dont speak good english thats why i cant describe well issues to make mates understand what happens.
But I can understand enough...

So, the problem with 6.2-rc4 was exactly as you describe for me too...
The only diff is that in my case when "it stops and next line appears at very top of the screen and only this line is changing" then the progress stop.
It not continue...
I thought that the problem was with SOF drivers because the time it was happening this issue, was exactly the same all the times.
It was the time that audio modules mondprobe.
In my case I had 2 audio cards
nvidia which never make it work
and intel
all infos are here

Not sure what to suggest, I doubt that sound card may prevent kernel from booting. Maybe check messages for additional info?
If you are dualbooting with Ubuntu, install 6.2rc4 and see if Ubuntu boots succesfully. If it does, then the issue is with Slackware config. Otherwise, developpers screwed up something and will have patiently wait for the final release.
This is why I never waste much time on rc as these releases change quickly from one to next.

I m not dual booting, even win11 I removed from disk to have all the space for Slackware
I test kernels every week if building ok for Slackware and NVidia.
The reason I builded rc kernel was because laptop have a nice audio technology named (BAND & OLUFSEN). And for 10 days that windows was installed I had very nice music hearing... now just I have sound...
I read in kernel maillist that kernel 6.2 will be focus to sof firmware specially. But I cant found that link now... I lost it.
So when rc.4 was out i said lets try it...
any way I will wait until 6.2.0 will be out to see if anything change...
The only thing I m missing is that beautiful sound that hardware can give...

Well, while Alder lake is newer than Tiger Lake both are supported (as released in 2020 - 2021). In my case sound works fine but mic is dead.
I don't think that laptop speakers are that great. Best is to use external speakers or headphones.
My short experience with 6.2rc4 does not show much improvement in the sound field. Maybe final 6.2 will be better.

note:
I never booted my laptop to windows. I loaded Slaskware on the first boot and deleted windows so I don't have a comparison bewteen sound quality produced by linux vs windows.

In the shortlog for 6.2-rc5 there are 7 patches from Filipe Manana including btrfs: do not abort transaction on failure to write log tree when syncing log. Was waiting for this one so as soon as backported in 6.1 I will upgrade the Slint kernel to the 6.1 branch.

EDIT: it's also in 6.1.8-rc1 so odds are that 6.1.8 will include it.

I v build 6.2.0-rc5
the problem with that kernel is exactly the same as is written in previous post.

If I boot runlevel 3
start ok but after few seconds it stops and next line appears at very top of the screen and only this line is changing for wile then that line stop also. It looks like the progress has stop stopped but thats not true. It seams that was working in the background because if i change tty
then I can login and X11 works ok like other kernels.

If I boot runlevel 4
start ok but after few seconds it stops and next line appears at very top of the screen and only this line is changing for wile then when is the time for X prepare last line start working again!
untill gdm apears and I can open X11-Wayland kde-xfce-gnome without any issue!

attached files:
620-rc-init4.log= when I booted runlevel 4
6.2.0-rc5-init3.log= when I booted runlevel 3
6.2.0-rc5-recoveryMod-init3.log= ^^the same but in recovery mode
*SYS.log=explain inside log file (ignore gdm wayland fails)

Slackware kernels huge-generic and one generic builded by me 6.1.6-rtz have no issues in the the system.
Attached Files
File Type: log 620-rc-init4.log (82.0 KB, 8 views)
File Type: log 6.2.0-rc5-init3.log (81.8 KB, 6 views)
File Type: log 6.2.0-rc5-recoveryMode-init3.log (85.1 KB, 4 views)

5.10.165-rc1, with 98 patches, https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/...1.2/08461.html

5.4.230-rc1, with 55 patches, https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/...1.2/08459.html

ok, so video refresh during a boot is not working, when booting to init 4 this issue is masked by DM manager, when booting to init 3 video refresh issue is visible.
Nothing changed from 6.2-rc4 to 6.2-rc5
Again you prompted me to build 6.2-rc5 but I think that this is waste of time for average user so I will wait for the release of stable 6.2
